Prime17-Fe™ Asymmetrical Hardwood Diffuser Systems

Overview

AVL Systems Prime17-Fe™Asymmetrical Diffuser System is an attractive, furniture-grade hardwood wall and ceiling system easily installed to most architectural surfaces. Decorative wood planks with an optimized hybrid diffuser design combine quadratic residue number theory and periodic principles resulting in an innovative, deep-well design that in-creases single-dimension diffusion performance beginning as soon as 1000 Hz. Usable frequency range is up to 13,230 Hz. Additional low frequency absorption may be gained by installing 1/16” separations between units over a back-cavity filled with black 1.5-3 pcf absorption material layer. Wood diffuser planks are low-profile, furniture-grade, finished products that are easily installed. These products are precisely engineered and manufactured to provide one dimensional (horizontal or vertical) diffusion and wide-range scattering of sound energy without resonances or excessive absorption. AVL Systems Prime17-Fe™ Asym-metrical Diffusers are meticulously constructed and may be ordered in a wide variety of wood material species and finishes including both clear and color matched, FRP, acrylic or custom laminates. Custom sizes and finishes are available.

Applications

AVL Systems Prime17-Fe™Asymmetrical Diffuser Systems are ideal for rooms and spaces where flutter echo and acoustical control is a consideration. The design of these products allows the specifier to provide diffusion to help scatter and blend the sounds in the room for the listening enjoyment of both music and speech. These functions help performers hear themselves with others and serves to improve clarity and tonal separation for voice, music, and performances.

* Unlike sound absorption testing (ASTM C423) and sound transmission testing (ASTM E90), there is no standardized ASTM (American Society for Testing of Materials) test for sound diffusion. The Audio Engineering Society has suggested guidelines for characterizing the uniformity of scattering produced by surfaces from predictions of scattered polar responses. These suggestions are from informational document AES-4id-2001 and has yet to be adopted by ASTM industry use nor does it present a standardized, verifiable reference for the comparison of products. Currently, diffusion calculations are used for predicting test results and are a product of each manufacturer’s interpretations. AVL Systems recognizes AES-4id-2001 as a tool for product development and performance predictions.
